Watching the Super Bowl? Some say yes, some say no
We asked readers on social media what they were doing on Super Bowl Sunday.
"Not watching" was high on the list of responses, either because the responder's favorite team isn't in it this year, or there is no real interest in football.
Here's what people had to say.
Getting their game on
Jeanne Miller says, "For 34 years we have Super Bowl Sunday sundaes, any kind my son wants. Now, 11 years with his wonderful wife, too. Never missed a year." Jeannie says they eat soft pretzels during the big game too.
Lorina Fauber doesn't follow sports, but she does get caught up in the festivities. "I only go to a party for the companionship and food and drinks. And I always wear something with an owl on it and make the same lame Superb Owl Party joke."
John Malmos will be watching the game and enjoying the commercials, some pizza and wings, but says he doesn't care for the halftime show.
Vanessa Balzano Dawson will be watching, but likely only for a few minutes. "The only thing that will be worth watching is Luke Bryan singing the national anthem."
Allison Hart and her family have a party every year. "My husband's best friend is a butcher and terrific cook, so we always make plans for a huge spread of food. People seem to like and love to come just to see what we've dreamed up. The game is usually on as background noise."
Not in it, not interested
Theresa Keiser's team, the Seattle Seahawks, isn't playing this year, and even when they do, she doesn't watch. "I follow the game, but if I sit and watch the game, they will lose, so I only follow their statistics and then play a radio." When the Seahawks won the Super Bowl in 2014? "I followed on the Internet."
Judi Rae Kesner isn't watching. "If the Steelers aren't in it, I don't watch."
Jamileh Delcambre isn't watching either. "I'll be playing video games and eating my weight in fudge, or I'll be on the side of a mountain digging my trail crampons into the ice. Either way, no Cowboys, no 'Superb Owl'."
Cathy LoRe says she watches the Super Bowl "only if the Giants are in it!"
Alternative bowls
Candy Knappenberger plans to watch the "Puppy Bowl" on Animal Planet. Coverage begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m., giving dog lovers a chance to enjoy both the dog bowl and the Super Bowl.
Tyra Hattersley says, "Cats rule, dogs drool." She'll be watching "Kitten Bowl IV" on the Hallmark Channel. The furry fun begin at noon with pregame festivities and wraps up around 9 p.m.
Super what?
Nancy Mason asks, "Super Bowl? What's that?"
Elizabeth Finger won't be watching either. "Nothing here dealing with football ... no interest."
Rhonda Donaldson says she's not watching.
Matt Soblick won't be watching. "I refuse to watch it. NFL has become extremely anti-American. Allowing players to sit for the national anthem, but penalizes players for wearing cleats with paint depicting support for 9/11 victims."
Better things to do
Stacey Yaroszeufski says that her family will usually go out to a restaurant around kickoff time. "Even the most popular restaurants are empty that day."
Carleen Ladden will be enjoying the great outdoors. "The best thing to do is go skiing in the afternoon. Slopes are always empty. Super Bowl afternoon/evening and the morning of Jan. 1."
