Untaxed cigarettes found at vehicle stop

A vehicle stop led to the discovery of a large quantity of untaxed cigarettes.

State police at Fogelsville stopped a vehicle about 8:43 p.m. on Jan. 15 along Interstate 78 eastbound in Upper Saucon Township, Lehigh County, for traffic violations. The driver was identified as Saidjon Tursunov, of Brooklyn, New York.

A consent search of the vehicle resulted in 31 cartons of untaxed cigarettes being found. The resale value of the cigarettes in New York City was estimated at $3,865. Tursunov has been charged with possession of untaxed cigarettes.
