Victim in fatal crash identified
The victim of a fatal crash in Luzerne County has been identified.
State police at Hazleton said Jose Elvin Orellana-Lopez, 35, of Hazleton, died as the result of injuries sustained in the crash that occurred at 2:12 a.m. Monday.
Troopers said Lopez was driving a vehicle along Route 309 (North Church Street) at 23rd Street, Hazle Township, when it slid sideways into a utility pole. Rescue personnel had to free Lopez from the wreckage. He was transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital - Hazleton Campus, where he was pronounced dead. Troopers said speed may have been a factor in the crash.
