Winery hosts chili cook-off fundraiser for firefighters
Galen Glen Winery, 255 Winter Mountain Drive, Andreas, will host its fourth annual Chili Cook Off Jan. 21.
The winery is excited about the feedback so far for its fourth annual chili cook off.
"We have five chefs participating and also received applications from three chefs who are on a waiting list, should one of our current chefs cancel," says tasting room manager Kathy Matson.
The winery started chili cook off competition to offer their guests a way to beat the winter blues. Matson says that this year's competition is even more meaningful as it is a repeat fundraising effort for the West Penn Fire Company.
"What's a better pairing than firefighters and chili? Wine!" says Matson.
Guests to the winery, 21 and over, will pay $7 and receive a glass of Chambourcin or Cellar Red wine and a taste of each chef's chili.
Matson is enthusiastic about this year's chefs.
"We have a fire house chef, a professional baker, some well-known people in the local business community and I'm thrilled that our 2015 winner is making a new recipe and competing again."
Chefs hail from Lehighton, Bethlehem, Brodheadsville and Reading.
The cook-off will take place from noon to 3 p.m. (or the chili runs out). In the event of snow, the event will take place on Jan. 28.
Updates will be posted to the winery's Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest pages.
