Local residents graduate from military

Alex Raub, of Palmerton, graduated cum laude with an Associate of Arts degree in justice and security studies from Valley Forge Military College, Wayne, Pennsylvania, during their commencement on May 20. He has recently enlisted in the U.S. National Guard and is scheduled to attend basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia, in Spring 2017. In the interim, Raub is attending LCCC and plans to continue his studies in criminal justice after completing basic training.

Raub, a 2014 graduate of Palmerton Area High School, is the son of Janet and Michael Raub of Palmerton, and the grandson of Pauline and Amandus (Jr.) Steigerwalt of Andreas and the late Arthur and Faye Raub formerly from Palmerton.

Nicholas Mantz, of Andreas, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in ocean engineering from the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland, during their graduation and commissioning ceremony on May 27. During the ceremony, Mantz was sworn in as a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. While at the academy, he was a four-year member of the Naval ice hockey team.

On Dec. 14,Mantz graduated from basic training at Marine Corps Base Quantico. He departed on Jan. 3 for flight school in Pensacola, Florida.

Mantz, valedictorian of the 2012 Lehighton Area High School graduating class, is the son of Judy and David Mantz of Andreas, and the grandson of Pauline and Amandus (Jr.) Steigerwalt of Andreas and Diane and the late Donald Mantz of Lehighton.
