Fourth of July favorites

According to Offers.com the average American family will spend $90.65 on food and other items to celebrate Independence Day.

When asked what their favorite 4th of July foods are, the 1,000 survey respondents said:

• Burgers, 31 percent

• BBQ, 25 percent

• Hot dogs, 14 percent

• Chicken, 11 percent

• Side dishes, 10 percent

• Desserts, 8 percent

• Other, 2 percent

When asked about their favorite 4th of July activities, they said:

• Cookout/BBQ/picnic, 34.1 percent

• Watch fireworks, 30.8 percent

• Hanging out on the water, 13 percent

• Going to a parade, 10.4 percent

• Hosting a party, 6 percent

• Going shopping, 4.1 percent

• Other, 1.3 percent

When asked what they would be buying for the 4th, most of the consumers (36 percent) said they will be spending between $1-$50 for the 4th of July, and a majority of them will spend that money on food, alcohol and party supplies as follows:

• Food, 53.6 percent

• Alcohol, 22.9 percent

• Party supplies, 11.1 percent

• Outdoor equipment, 4.8 percent

• Home goods, 3.9 percent

• Clothing, 3.7 percent
