Police investigate Schuylkill crashes
State police at Frackville reported on two crashes, one a hit-and-run, investigated by troopers over the past weekend in Schuylkill County.
Troopers said a one-vehicle crash occurred at 7:40 a.m. on Friday along Route 4030 (High Street) in Gilberton.
Michael T. Dolan, 55, of Girardville, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet 1500 truck westbound and negotiating a right turn when the vehicle crossed over the double yellow line and entered the eastbound lane. The truck then continued off the road where it struck a utility pole, severing it in half.
Dolan was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pottsville Campus for observation, troopers said.
Volunteers from the Girardville Fire Company assisted at the scene. PPL crews replaced the pole.
Troopers cited Dolan for the crash.
The hit-and-run was reported on Saturday about 11:50 p.m. along Swatara Road in West Mahanoy Township. Troopers said a 2014 Jeep Cherokee was legally parked in the area of 112 Swatara Road when it was side-swiped by another vehicle whose driver did not stop. Damages to the Jeep were to the driver's side door and left fender.
