Police report Identity thefts

State police at the Lehighton barracks are investigating the following identity theft cases:

• A 33-year-old Palmerton man reported at 3:21 p.m. March 2 in the 500 block of Hill Road, Towamensing Township, a 33-year-old Lehighton woman used his Social Security number to make fraudulent purchases.

• An 82-year-old woman from Polk Township is the victim of a fraud/theft/forgery case that was reported at noon March 2.

Police said the victim received a telephone call from an unknown person who said a family member was arrested and needed $4,500 to resolve the situation. The victim was instructed to go to the nearest Walmart and purchase gift cards. She was then instructed to release the pin numbers.
