caregiver support group

The Alzheimer Association Caregiver Support Group at Blue Mountain Health System meets monthly from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the third floor conference room at the Palmerton campus at 135 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton.

The next meeting is March 27. A representative from Heritage Hill Senior Community in Weatherly will speak about dementia, stages of dementia, how it affects the caregiver and when it's time to place a loved one.

Donna Kravelk, a registered nurse on the Older Adult Behavioral Health Unit at BMHS, will facilitate the meetings. Members learn, offer and receive helpful tips, and meet others coping with Alzheimer's disease or another dementia. The atmosphere is one of caring, and the environment is a confidential and nonjudgmental place to share.

The meetings are free and anyone seeking support and knowledge of Alzheimer's and dementia is welcome to attend. To register, or for more information, email Kravelk at dmkatz407@verizon.net or call 610-826-1340.
