Speeding stop leads to charges

A speeding stop has led to a juvenile being charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance and drug charges.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said the juvenile male, no age given, was stopped at 1:08 a.m. Aug. 19 along Route 940 at Route 196 in Mount Pocono for speeding and making an illegal turn.

A strong odor of marijuana was detected coming from the vehicle. A consent search of the vehicle was conducted and found was a quantity of marijuana consistent with street sales, police said.

The juvenile submitted to a blood test which revealed the presence of marijuana in his system.

He has been charged with DUI, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal use of a communication facility and other traffic offenses.
