Kara Scott has announced she intends to challenge Doyle Heffley for his seat representing the 122nd Legislative District in the State House of Representatives. Scott, a Democrat, is a three-term president of borough council in Bowmanstown, vice president of the Carbon County Council of Governments, and founder of Bowmanstown Area Residents Connected (BARC), a local community service organization.

Kara for Carbon is the slogan chosen by Scott for her campaign. In her announcement speech she will emphasize the need for representatives to actually represent their constituents, saying that, “It’s past time to put the needs of Carbon’s people ahead of political pandering. Our challenges are many and they won’t be solved by repeating the same old political talking points.”

Scott will make the case for her candidacy, saying that the time has come to “look with new eyes at the lack of affordable health care, our increasing property taxes, the opioid crisis, the needs of old and young.

“Our public schools need attention, not privatization. Our teachers need our support. Our kids shouldn’t be profit centers for banks and their own government. Student debt is a blight on the future of a whole generation.”

Asking for support from people willing to join her team, Scott will tell listeners she is looking for volunteers, petition circulators and financial support for her committee, Friends of Kara Scott.
