2019 general election: Banks voters decide supervisor position

Published November 06. 2019 01:16PM

Democrat William J. Nice was a big winner in Tuesday’s balloting for a six-year term on the Banks Township Board of Supervisors.

Nice tallied 221 votes to easily defeat Republican Richard P. Hornick Sr., who collected 52 votes.

In one other race in the township, Democrat Mary Beth Pelley received 230 token votes as an unopposed candidate for a six-year term on the township’s board of auditors.

Meanwhile, in nearby Beaver Meadows, there were no contested races Tuesday. Thad Williams collected 159 complimentary votes as a Democratic and Republican candidate for the two-year term as mayor, while four others were without opposition for four four-year terms on the borough council.

Kevin Hines, who appeared on both ballots, received 146 votes, four more than Republican Dydyna Tranguch’s 138. Democrats Anthony A. Rusnock and Alfred J. Mitcho Jr. followed with 124 and 113 votes, respectively.

There was also a two-year term on the council on the ballot, although there were no candidates. Nine write-in votes were recorded for the position. The person who received the highest total of the nine will win the seat.

In two townships north of the Broad Mountain — Lausanne and Lehigh — there were no general election contests.

In Lausanne, Democrat Edward Klynowsky received 37 token votes as the lone candidate for a six-year term in the board of supervisors, and there were no candidates for a six-year term on the board of auditors.

In Lehigh, Republican Wayne Wagner was without opposition for the six-year term on the board of supervisors and received 114 token votes. There were also two auditors’ positions up for grabs, for terms of six years and two years, although there were no candidates for either of the positions.
