2019 general election: East Side voters declares mayor, council positions
The voters in East Side Borough in Carbon County determined who will hold the mayor’s position for a two-year term, as well as deciding a four-person race for three four-year terms on the borough council.
Republican Louis A. Esa was the winner in the mayor’s race, defeating Democrat Gerald D. Jones Jr. by a vote of 43 to 19.
In the council race, the winners were Republican John Ciepel and Democrats Rudolph C. Schoch and Helen Stockinger.
Ciepel led the way with 45 votes while Schoch was second with 39, and Stockinger won with 32. Losing out was Democrat John P. Marotta who tallied 26 votes.
There was also balloting Tuesday for a two-year term on the borough council, although there were no candidates. There were 10 write-in votes that will be reviewed to declare a winner of that position.
In Kidder Township balloting Tuesday, there were no contests. Republican Thomas Bing LaFond was unopposed for a six-year term on the board of supervisors and received 346 token votes. Louis Pantages, who won both Democratic and Republican nominations for a four-year term on the board, collected 388 complimentary votes as well.
No one ran for the six-year term on the township’s board of auditors, although there were votes cast via the write-in method by seven voters who will decide the position.
