2019 general election: Five seats are determined on Jim Thorpe board

Published November 06. 2019 01:20PM

Voters in the Jim Thorpe Area School District determined who will represent them on the board of education for the next four years, when five people won terms during the general election.

Actually, four of the winners were virtually assured victories in that the appeared on both the Democratic and Republican ballots, having won both nominations in the primary election.

That left the fifth seat basically to be determined in a race between Republican T.J. Garritano and Democrat Benjamin L. Walbert III. Garritano won that head-to-head race by a tally of 2,121 to 1,420.

The other four winners included Cindy Lesisko Henning, Scott R. Pompa, Pearl Downs-Sheckler and Paul Montemuro. Henning led the way with 2,668 votes; followed by Pompa, 2,553; Downs-Sheckler, 2,429; and Montemuro, 2,287.
