2019 general election: Seven board seats are filled in Panther Valley

Voters in the Panther Valley School District — which includes Lansford, Nesquehoning and Summit Hill in Carbon County and Coaldale in Schuylkill County — elected people to seven positions on the district’s board of education during the general election on Tuesday.

The winners included Marco R. D’Ancona, who actually won two seats, one for a four-year term and the other for a two-year term.

In the balloting for five four-year terms on the board, the winners were Daniel Matika, Gary Porembo, William J. Mansberry Jr., Joseph J. Faenza and D’Ancona. Matika tallied 1,864 votes, followed by Porembo, 1,803; Mansberry, 1,606; Faenza, 1,468; and D’Ancona, 1,372. Failing to win a seat was the sixth candidate, incumbent Renee DeMelfi, who had 1,279 votes.

There were also two two-year terms to be filled, with D’Ancona and Steven Foster being the candidates. The latter tallied 2,013 while D’Ancona netted 1,631.
