Tree lightings
• Lansford: The Cancer Telethon Office will present Santa for free photos when they open for a holiday shopping and food sale on Small Business Saturday. Santa will be available for photos with children (and small, well-behaved pets) from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the volunteer office at 33 W. Ridge St. in Lansford. No charge to pose with Santa. Donations are accepted with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society Telethon of Eastern PA for 2020. The day will also feature a food sale with soups, baked goods, snacks, hot dogs and more. Weather permitting, S’mores will be available outside at the front door. Cocoa and cider, too.
• Weissport: The Weissport Recreation Committee will be lighting the Christmas lights from 5-7 p.m. on Nov. 30. Santa will be there. Come join the fun singing Christmas carols.
• Lansford: 5 p.m. Nov. 30, Christmas in the Park in Kennedy Park. Annual tree lighting with music by the Panther Valley Band and arrival of Santa. Refreshments available, along with a drawing for five prizes. Free event with donations welcome. Rain date is 5 p.m. Dec. 1.
• Weatherly: Christmas at the museum will take place from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 30. Christmas in the Park will take place from 4-8 p.m. on Dec. 8.
• Nesquehoning: The borough Christmas tree lighting will held at 6 p.m. Dec. 1 in the former St. Patrick’s Cemetery, located next to Turkey Hill on West Catawissa Street. Following the lighting, Meed’s Memorial United Methodist Church, 126 W. Catawissa St., welcomes the public to come join in cookies, hot chocolate, coffee and tea, as well as Christmas caroling at the church.
• Slatington: The Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce annual tree lighting ceremony will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 6 at Slatington Memorial Park, 509 Main St. Donations of unwrapped, new toys will be accepted for the Toys for Tots Program.
• Chestnuthill Township: On Dec. 6, Santa will be visiting the Chestnuthill Township Park from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be crafts, music, cookies and cocoa from 6 to 8 p.m. as well as gifts, as per donations. Families are reminded to bring a camera for pictures with Santa.
• Ross Township: On Dec. 7, from 4 to 5 p.m., Santa will be at the Ross Township Building on Anchorage Road in Saylorsburg. The event includes a gingerbread craft, cookies and cocoa. Bring a camera to take pictures with Santa.
• Walnutport: This year’s event will be held at 3 p.m. Dec. 7 at the recreation center, located at 215 Lincoln Ave. The lighting ceremony will be held around 5 p.m. The Candy Cane Hunt will be held Dec. 14 in the Walnutport Park.
• Palmerton: Christmas in the Park, sponsored by the Palmerton Holiday Lights Committee, will take place beginning at noon on Dec. 7, with a rain date of Dec. 8. Opening ceremony will take place at noon. The S.S. Palmer Elementary School chorus and the Bell Choir of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will perform at 12:15 p.m. Santa greets children in the bandstand from 1 to 3 p.m. There will also be horse drawn carriage rides, a strolling brass quintet, and performances by Towamensing Elementary School Chorus, Palmerton High School Chorus, CACPAC Christmas carol Singalong. At 4:45 p.m. the town will light the 150 donated Christmas trees. Donations of new unwrapped toys will be accepted for Blue Mountain Toy Drive. Nonperishable food items will be collected for CACPAC Food Pantry. Donations are to be placed at the bandstand.
• Polk Township: The 22nd annual tree lighting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Polk Township Veterans Memorial and Adam’s Faith Garden at Salem St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kresgeville. There will be singing, arts and crafts, and a special guest arriving on a firetruck! Bring canned food items for donation for the local food bank.
• Summit Hill: The fifth annual Christmas on the Hill will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 8 in Ludlow Park. The St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley children’s choir will lead the crowd in caroling and hot chocolate and cookies will be available during the wait for Santa’s arrival. Santa will arrive by firetruck and then light the tree. Donations for the Summit Hill Food Pantry will be accepted throughout the evening. Cookie donations will be accepted between 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the park.
Other events
• The Harry Packer Mansion, 19 Packer Ave. in Jim Thorpe, is again hosting its “Nutcracker Holiday Displays” self-guided tour on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays for the holiday season. The tours kick off Nov. 29 and run through the end of December. Tours are open to the public and are available between 4 and 9 p.m. on Fridays, and 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. There is an admission fee for anyone 8 years old and older. Special fundraisers for area nonprofits are also available during the first three weeks of December. From 4 to 7 p.m. on Dec. 4, tours will be available to benefit the Lehighton Area Lioness Lions Club. From 4 to 6 p.m. on Dec. 10, tours will be available and will benefit Carbon County Friends of Animals. During that fundraiser, shelter officials ask that visitors bring monetary or items from the shelter’s wish list for entry.
• Snowflake 5K Walk/Run in Lehighton on Dec. 7. Race begins at 9 a.m.
• The Western Pocono Community Library is hosting its first Yule Ball from 7 to 10 p.m. on Dec. 7. It will include snacks, dancing, a basket raffle and photo booth. Formal or semiformal attire is requested. For cost and other information, contact the library at 570-992-7934 or WPCL@ptd.net.
• Summit Hill: Dec. 13 at 5 p.m. at Lansford Legion Post 123, Lansford Alive annual Christmas party and Black Diamond award presentation. This year the award will be presented to Panther Valley Lumber. This is also the first year the party is open to the general public as a community event.
Dec. 19 from 6-8 p.m., annual Christmas house decorating contest judging will take place and gift certificates will be awarded.
