2019 primary election: Lesisko-Henning announces candidacy for Jim Thorpe school board

Published April 09. 2019 12:36PM

Cindy Lesisko-Henning was born and raised in Jim Thorpe and has resided there most of her life. She is the daughter of the late Norbert “Tish” Lesisko and Joan Lesisko.

Lesisko-Henning is a 1982 Jim Thorpe Olympian graduate. While in school, she excelled in sports, earning letters in basketball and softball. She was also the sports editor of the Olympiad and the yearbook. She was a member of student council, elevating to council president in her senior year.

She has two children who attended Jim Thorpe schools. Tyler graduated from the Carbon Career & Technical Institute and Logan from Jim Thorpe high school. Lesisko-Henning recently moved to Penn Forest Township with her youngest son Logan, and fiancé, Guy.

She decided to run for the position of school director after consistently attending school board meetings and discovering a lot of “rubber-stamping,” wasteful spending and questionable financial activity. She envisions, if elected, working closely with the board to cut the wasteful spending, rubber-stamping and ensuring that taxpayers’ dollars are being used for what they were intended: the education of our children.

Over the past 35 years, she has worked in a financial capacity in corporate, municipal, nonprofit and health care industries. Lesisko-Henning’s specialty in her career is auditing, fraud detection, research and cost-cutting methods.

She volunteers in her community, is involved in drug awareness and was the founder and coordinator of the successful Jim Thorpe National Night Out for four years. She was also instrumental in starting up Step-Up Carbon and petitioning for the Carbon County drug courts. Lesisko-Henning has helped secure numerous community projects and funding for students.

She is an active member of a committee responsible for creating a community Emergency Management Plan. A registered Republican, she believes the issues facing us are across all party lines and walks of life; therefore, she is running on both tickets and asks for bipartisan support to secure a seat on the Jim Thorpe Area School Board to represent all residents of the school district.

“I will act ethically and responsibly to attain a fair and equitable outcome that is best for our school district.”
