2019 primary election: Supervisor races decided in West Penn and Schuylkill townships

There were supervisor races in Schuylkill and West Penn townships on Tuesday, both on the Republican side.

Following are the voting results of area municipalities.

Schuylkill Township

In Schuylkill Township Charles Fayash defeated challenger Coleen Sadusky by 10 votes for the Republican nomination for a six-year term as supervisor, 115 to 105. There were no Democratic candidates. Christine Verdier got 183 votes as the lone GOP candidate for auditor, six-year term. No Democrats filed.

West Penn Township

Glenn Hummel defeated Ted Bogosh for the GOP nomination for a six-year term as supervisor. There was no Democratic candidates. There was also no candidates for auditor with terms of 2, 4 and 6 years available.

Tamaqua borough

Four, four-year terms seats, were up for nomination for borough council. Four Republicans were on the ballot with Brian Connely leading the way with 532 votes followed by Ronald Bowman with 482 votes, Thomas Cara 452 and Robert Amentler 433. There were no Democratic candidates.

For a two-year term GOPer Mary Linkevich got 579 unopposed votes. There were no Democratic candidates. There was a six-year auditor position but there were no candidates.

Coaldale borough

There are four seats four-year terms up for council. Each party ran three candidates.

The results: Democratic side, Yvonne Stoffery, 90; Chad M. Gerber, 86; and Pauline Y. McNavage, 59. There were 88 write-in votes. Republican results: Claire Remington, 129; Wayne Fig Figner, 128; and Mary Ann Markley, 101. There were 143 write-ins.

The counting of write-in votes will begin Friday.

McAdoo borough

There are four four-year term council seats up for election, with the Democrats running four and the Republicans five.

On the Democratic side the vote totals were: John N. DeBalko, 96; Stacia Riccio, 91; Jessica Herness, 88; and Marion DeBalko, 86. The Republican order of finish was William J. Slovik, 119; Mary A. Labert, 113; Alberta Bumbulsky, 101; and Francis Frank Orem, 88. The odd person out is Jen Zola with 86 votes. There were 41 Demo and 63 GOP write-in votes.

New Ringgold

There are three four-year terms on council up with only one candidate for each party. Republican Elena Hendricks got 23 votes and Demo Elizabeth Fry got 17.

Rush Township

Incumbent Republican supervisor Shawn Gilbert got 345 votes. There were no other candidates.

Walker Township

There is one supervisor position, six-year term, with no candidates on the ballot. However, there were 108 Republican and 12 Democratic write-ins. Ten votes are needed to secure a nomination.

Delano Township

Republican Jason Scarcella got 21 unopposed votes for six-year term as supervisor with no Democratic candidates. For auditor, four-year term. Jane Baker 21 votes on the Demo side with no Republican candidate. A six-year auditor term, Republican Kelly Karlavage got 26 votes with no Democratic candidate.

Kline Township

There will be a race in the fall for a six-year term as supervisor. Both parties had one candidate Tuesday. On the Democrat side, Anthony J. Befano got 54 votes and on the GOP side Dale A. Wesner got 112. There were no candidates for a six-year term as auditor.

Ryan Township

There was a race for the GOP nomination for a six-year term as supervisor with Lori A. Feldish getting 128 votes to 120 for John D. Blew. There were no Democratic candidates. Daniel A. Gerber got 209 votes for a six-year term auditor on the GOP side with no Democratic candidate.

New Philadelphia

There are three seats, four-year term, for council. On the Democratic side there were three candidates: Ashley Zelinsky, 109; Patrick Hollywood, 101; and Dennis A. Faust, 57. On the GOP side Jen Colna got 59 votes. There were 35 write-in votes on the GOP side.

Middleport

There are two seats up for council, two-year term, and two seats for four-year term. For the two-year term Democrat Kevin Dempsey got 33 votes while there were no GOP candidates. For the four-year term Demo Desiree McHugh got 19 votes while Republican Elizabeth Borger for 24. Those two were square off in the fall.
