$246K awarded for machining job training
A $246,000 state grant is aimed at training Lehigh Valley workers for machining jobs in manufacturing plants.
“I am excited about the growth and continued diversification of our economy,” state Sen. Lisa M. Boscola said when announcing the grant. “These grants should help us strengthen our manufacturing sector by preparing our workers for machining jobs.”
Boscola said the Strategic Innovation Grants are aimed at preparing program completers with skills essential for entry-level machining positions for Lehigh Valley manufacturers. Objectives include 54 completers, a pool of vetted candidates, and placement into full-time employment. The program also focuses on continued training, strengthening relationships with employers and improving job training curricula.
The Bethlehem lawmaker added that the grant program will partner with the Northampton Community College, Career Institute of Technology in Northampton County, Lehigh Carbon Community College and Lehigh Career and Technical Institute in Lehigh County.
The Strategic Innovation Grants encourage creativity and innovation in achieving workforce development outcomes for both employers and job seekers. The program is administered by the state Department of Labor and Industry.
