A bond between two dogs is a story worth telling.

Two dogs, a male and female, were found abandoned on the Broad Mountain in the early morning of Dec. 19. The pair, of different breeds, were aggressive and scared as they were taken to the Carbon County Animal Shelter in Nesquehoning.

They only felt comfort in each other.

Ten days is the time it took for the dogs to accept comfort from a human.

“When they got here, they wanted nothing to do with me. I needed to take them out of the cage to clean it and place food and fresh water. Then, on the twelfth day, they allowed me to come in, and I read them a story,” Tom Connors, director of the Carbon County Animal Shelter said.

Last week, Connors took the pair out for a walk, and he slipped on the ice. Instead of running away, the dogs stayed with him to ensure he was not hurt.

“They’re big dogs, but they’re not aggressive ones. If they were aggressive, so many different scenarios could have occurred when I fell, but they stayed with me,” he said.

The dogs who were named Lady and Bruiser will receive the necessary shots and will need to be spayed and neutered. They will be ready for adoption on Saturday.

Connors hopes a loving home will adopt the pair together.

“They don’t have to be adopted together, but we’d like it. Once they feel safe with you, they are great dogs,” he said.

The Carbon County Animal Shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
