An Albrightsville man was sentenced to a state prison term on Thursday morning after pleading guilty to simple assault, driving under the influence and endangering the welfare of a child charges.

John J. Chattin, 46, entered the pleas before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

He admitted assaulting two men along Dryden Drive in Penn Forest Township on Nov. 4, 2016. The two were riding a golf cart when Chattin came out of a residence and confronted them. He also did damage to the cart. Chattin, state police at Fern Ridge said, mentioned something about money being owed to him.

The DUI and endangering incident occurred on April 29, 2017, along Old Stage Road in Penn Forest Township. State police responded to a one-vehicle crash. On scene Chattin was found to be the driver and determined to be impaired by troopers. A 9-year-old male juvenile was a front-seat passenger. Troopers believed Chattin was under the influence of a controlled substance. He refused to submit to a blood test.

Nanovic sentenced him to serve six to 18 months in a state correctional institution on the charges and ordered him to make restitution for damages to the golf cart of $1,188.79 and have no contact with the assault victims. The prison term runs concurrent with a 12 to 24 month state term Chattin was sentenced to serve by Northampton County court. He must also pay court costs of about $1,000.

Nanovic had to defer sentencing on the DUI and endangering charges because Chattin must first obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.
