Allentown man gets 25 to 60 years in slaying
ALLENTOWN (AP) — A man has been sentenced to 25 to 60 years in state prison in the slaying of a teenager shot in the bedroom of his eastern Pennsylvania home 7½ years ago.
The Morning Call reports that Quante Cruz, 29, pleaded guilty Monday in Lehigh County Court to third-degree murder and burglary.
Authorities said 17-year-old Kareem Fedd, who was to start his senior year at William Allen High School, was shot at his Allentown home in August 2012.
Officials said the victim’s mother found him dead in his bed when she came home from work.
Investigators said Cruz acknowledged having climbed a fire escape and pushed in an air conditioner in the bedroom before shooting the teen as he slept.
Authorities have said the slaying was in retaliation for the shooting of a member of a rival gang.
The victim’s mother, Jeani Haskins, shouted “You killed the wrong kid” at the defendant, who showed no reaction.
