Animal cruelty incident investigated

Published May 31. 2018 07:57AM

State police at Frackville are investigating an animal cruelty incident that was reported recently.

Troopers said a young adult pit bull was found deceased in a cage in a wooded area at the end of Thomaston Road in Heckscherville, Cass Township, by hikers. The cage containing the dog was intentionally placed in a hole in the ground and covered with boards from a nearby abandoned home that had collapsed.

The dog was then left at that location and likely died from starvation in what appears to be an intentional torturing of the animal. The dog was brindle with a white chest.

Troopers were assisted by members of the Ruth Steinert Memorial SPCA. Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call troopers at 570-874-5300.
