Area residents victims of fraud

Two area residents reported being victim’s of fraud by the illegal use of their personal information and credit cards.

State police at Lehighton said a 62-year-old woman from Towamensing Township, Carbon County, reported someone gained access to her personal information and successfully opened several credit cards. Purchases totaling $3,606.07 were made. All of the items were intercepted and returned to the manufacturers, troopers said.

A 37-year-old man from Kresgeville, Polk Township, Monroe County, reported someone gained access to his ATM/credit card. He estimated between $1,200 to $1,500 was withdrawn from the account before he could notify his bank to close the account.

Troopers are continuing their investigation into the incidents.
