Arrests reported by troopers

State police at Lehighton reported on the following arrests. In each case troopers declined to name the person charged.

• A 39-year-old Lansford man is facing a driving under the influence of a controlled substance charge following a traffic stop in the area of Route 443 and Fredericks Grove Road in Mahoning Township. The stop was made at 8:57 p.m. Friday.

• A 27-year-old man from Wind Gap is facing charges following a traffic stop along Cherry Valley Road, near Route 33, in Hamilton Township, Monroe County. At the stop troopers smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was made and found was about 300 bags of heroin in the back-seat area. At that time the passenger in the vehicle ran off. After a brief foot pursuit, the man was apprehended and he was found with 30 bags of heroin on him.

The suspect was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and resisting arrest. He was placed in the county prison in Snydersville. The woman who was driving was released after being charged with false identification and numerous traffic violations.
