Auditors’ positions determined in Carbon

Published December 03. 2019 01:38PM

Four auditors positions in Carbon County townships were decided when the Carbon County Board of Elections met at noon Tuesday in the elections office, 76 Susquehanna St., Jim Thorpe, for the purpose of breaking tie votes in four municipalities in the general election of Nov. 5.

The ties existed in East Penn, Mahoning, Lehigh and Packer townships and were created because no one sought the positions while nine people received one write-in vote each.

With no candidates on the ballots in East Penn Township, James Montiel and James Lambert were deadlocked with one write-in vote each. Montiel won the six-year term via the casting of lots procedure used by election board members William O’Gurek, chairman, Gerald Dotter and Myron Tarapchak.

Jesse Leiby won a three-way tie breaker for the six-year term as Mahoning Township auditor. The others who joined him in getting one vote each were Ronald R. Reeser and Sue Ann Lewine.

In Lehigh Township, Cindy Baade won a two-way tiebreaker against Cindy Finsel for the two-year term that was available, and in Packer, Catherine Grega won the six-year term over Craig Reiner.
