Each year the Concourse Club of Palmerton honors five Guiding Stars from the Palmerton Area Senior High School. The students are chosen by a committee of high school educators in the district.

A Guiding Star must be a female student in the top 25 percent of the senior class and be involved in both school and community activities. Each Guiding Star receives a certificate, an engraved Guiding Star charm and a $100 cash award.

Avery Neipert was selected one of the Guiding Stars and was recognized at February’s Concourse Club meeting. She is the daughter of Kelli Neipert-Costenbader, Leslie Neipert, and stepfather, Michael Costenbader. She has three brothers: Nicholas, Tyler and Jonathan Neipert.

Avery addressed the Concourse club and recognized her mother, Kelli, and grandmother, Cheryl Allen, as her guiding stars for the inspiration they have given her throughout her life.

Avery’s school activities include Leo Club, student council, president of the National Honor Society, president of Future Business Leaders of America, and secretary of the Environmental Club. She also has been a member of the varsity soccer and softball teams since ninth grade.

Outside of school activities, she volunteers with the Palmerton library, the summer breakfast brunch at St. John’s Episcopal Church and helping with both the Raising the House and the Bo Tkach Turkey Trot 5K events.

Avery has been accepted to Lebanon Valley College, Misericordia, Arcadia, University of Pittsburgh and Slippery Rock. As of now, she intends to go to Lebanon Valley for the six-year doctor of physical therapy program.
