Award for excellence Times House wins TripAdvisor certification

A Jim Thorpe bed-and-breakfast is striving for excellence.
The Times House, located on Race Street, was recently awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence Hall of Fame status for receiving TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence for five consecutive years.
Certificate of Excellence recipients include accommodations, restaurants and attractions located all over the world that have continually delivered a quality customer experience.
“My husband, Chris, and I are thrilled to receive the Certificate of Excellence Hall of Fame award. We love helping our guests make memories here at the Times House, whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, honeymoon, trip to see a show or outdoor adventure getaway. We are thankful and humbled that so many of our guests have written reviews of their stays and appreciate their experience with us,” said Diane Prokop, co-owner of the Times House. “Chris and I will continue to work hard to make their stays special.”
Established in 2009, the Times House is located in the heart of Jim Thorpe, and offers guests a welcoming and relaxing stay in one of the establishment’s four suites. Each room includes electric fireplaces, private baths and whirlpool tubs, as well as décor that historically fits the rich history of the building itself.
“We wanted to keep the old feel of the building but didn’t want to make it feel stuffy,” Prokop said. “We liked the old-world charm.”
Guests can also enjoy en suite continental breakfasts and relax in the parlor in between exploring the Victorian-era town.
The couple fell in love with the building at 23-25 Race Street in 2006.
The building, built in the 1870s, housed the Mauch Chunk Times-News from 1927-1967 when it was owned and operated by the Boyle family.
The couple purchased the building and settled on the Times House name because of fate.
Prokop, a former journalist who had worked for two newspapers with the word Times in their names, said they wanted to pay tribute to the Times-News, the role it played in the history of Mauch Chunk and Jim Thorpe and the people who made that history.
