Bears, Fillies, Panthers get volleyball wins
Pleasant Valley, Marian and Panther Valley all picked up volleyball victories on Thursday.
VOLLEYBALL
Pleasant Vy.-Stroudsburg
Pleasant Valley defeated Stroudsburg, 25-19, 25-16, 25-20, to secure its sixth consecutive Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Mountain Division championship.
The Bears improved their record to 15-8-3 overall and 11-5 in the league.
Andrea Crilley led the winners’ offense with nine kills. Sara Frankunas had eight kills, five blocks and two aces; Cameron Caffrey had 16 assists and 12 digs; and Desi Beade added 17 digs.
Marian-Lehighton
Marian edged Lehighton in Schuylkill League action, 25-27, 25-15, 25-13, 20-25, 15-10.
For the winners, Alivia Karchner totaled 20 kills, eight digs, and three blocks. Kelly Sullivan had eight kills and five blocks; Ashlyn Klitsch had 40 assists, five digs and three blocks; and Tatianna Zeleniak had five aces, 14 digs and three assists.
For the Indians, Sophia Salerno had 15 digs, nine kills and three aces. Allison Reph added 24 digs; Danielle Miller had 10 kills and three aces; and Alyssa Frey had 30 assists.
Panther Vy.-Blue Mountain
Panther Valley needed five sets to down Blue Mountain, 18-25, 25-9, 25-17, 22-25,15-13.
Erika Dubosky had 12 kills, 10 blocks, nine digs and five aces for the Panthers. Jenna Dubosky had 16 kills, 15 assists and five digs, and four aces;
Olivia Dacey had eight kills and 10 digs; and Gianna Steber had 12 assists and four digs.
Pine Grove-Jim Thorpe
Pine Grove needed four sets to post a 25-22, 20-25, 25-17, 25-14 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.
Leading the Olympians was Brandy Montemuro with 13 kills, 12 assists and 16 digs. Autumn Snyder added nine kills and three blocks; Abbey McGinley had 24 digs; and Grace Baldassano had 14 assists.
Pottsville-Tamaqua
Pottsvile rolled to a 25-4, 25-9, 25-2 Schuylkill League sweep of Tamaqua.
BOYS SOCCER
Jim Thorpe-Pleasant Vy.
Jim Thorpe recorded a 1-0 non-league win over Pleasant Valley.
The Olympians’ Thor Huth scored the game’s only goal off an assist from Chris Condly in the second half.
Jim Thorpe’s Jacob Geiser, and Pleasant Valley’s Chris Price, both had seven saves in goal.
FIELD HOCKEY
Lehighton-Moravian Acad.
Lehighton scored three second-half goals to defeat non-league opponent Moravian Academy, 3-2.
Karissa Hough scored the game winner with just under seven minutes remaining, snapping a 2-2 tie.
Hough had two goals for the Indians, while Madison Brown added the other tally.
Cassie Romanczuk and Chiara Cadia both scored for the Lions.
