Beltzville, Locust lakes reopen beaches

Published July 12. 2019 11:31AM

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has reopened the beach area at Beltzville State Park in Carbon County and Locust Lake State Park in Schuylkill County to swimming effective Friday morning.

The test results at Beltzville for July 10 have returned normal bacterial levels.

Beltzville Lake was closed to swimming on Wednesday after a water sample on Monday showed high bacterial counts.

Locust Lake was shut down for swimming on July 3 after water samples showed high bacteria levels in the water.

If they’re so educated why can’t they figure out how to clean up after themselves? I don’t mind people from out of the area using our resources, it’s the lack of respect they show by leaving behind a mess. I’ve been to Beltzville a day after a holiday and there is trash everywhere. Not even put in bags, just thrown on the ground.
Why does the bacteria seem to magically dissipate, on a Friday? Could it be, that hundreds of people aren’t defecating in the water, during the week? I mean, do the geese have jobs, during the week, or something?
Out of towners should stay just that n if u go there it's on you if u get sick or disease
