Beware of court phone scam

Published October 30. 2017 02:15PM

Carbon County residents need to be aware of a new phone scam that alleges the caller is from the Carbon County Court of Common Pleas.

Greg Armstrong, district court administrator, has received calls regarding a mediator calling people, claiming he is from the county court.

No one from the court system is making these calls, which come through on caller ID as 844-860-0907.

Armstrong said the caller says he is “calling in regards to delinquent payday loans from prior years and lists a phony criminal case.”

The caller then requests a credit card number to pay the balance, and if the person will not provide the information, threatens that the case will proceed in court.

Armstrong said police are aware of this scam. He advises anyone who receives a phone call to take down the number of the call and then call local police.

I usually check every unfamiliar number to sites like http://whycall.me to see if people have reported the number as scam. If I found the page with some complaints on it, I will just block the number and report the number to the FCC.
