Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group

The Alzheimer Association Caregiver Support Group at Blue Mountain Health System meets monthly at 5:30 p.m. in the third-floor conference room at the Palmerton campus at 135 Lafayette Ave. in Palmerton. The next meeting will be Jan. 29.

Donna Kravelk, a registered nurse on the Older Adult Behavioral Health Unit at BMHS, will facilitate the group, which is intended to provide emotional, educational and social support for caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia.

The meetings are free and anyone seeking support and knowledge of Alzheimer’s and dementia are welcome to attend.

New to Medicare educational program

Blue Mountain Health System will co-sponsor a New to Medicare educational program with the Carbon County Area Agency on Aging on at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 31 at the Bowmanstown Medical Plaza, 512 Bank St., Bowmanstown.

The program will give an overall view of Medicare including hospital care, physician and lab work and prescription drug coverage. It is important to get a basic understanding of the program.

Representatives from the Carbon County Area Agency on Aging will provide a general introduction to Medicare, which includes Medicare Parts A, B and C; Medicare supplemental insurance, including Medi-Gap policies; Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (Part D).

This is an educational program to help people entering Medicare for the first time, and their caregivers, to better understand this comprehensive health care program.
