Board member donates for kids in need
Jim Area School Board member Glenn Confer presented a check for $1,000 to Superintendent Brian Gasper, with the intent that the funds be used for the purchase of winter coats for students in need.
The passion for providing students with necessary winter-wear stemmed from a conversation Confer had with his daughter, who noticed children who were underdressed for the cold weather.
“Back in the day, my daughter said to me one day, ‘Dad, you should see some of the kids at the bus stop.’ So, I donated $1,000, but I never said anything,” Confer said.
Over the years, he would go on to provide additional money for the cause as a treasurer and board member. And based on his offer at Monday’s meeting to provide even more coats for those who need them, Confer’s mission to provide for the students of Jim Thorpe will continue indefinitely.
