Borough official asks for more handicapped accessibility at municipal building
A Lehighton official would like to see the borough’s municipal building be more handicapped accessible.
Councilman Darryl Arner told borough council on Monday that some members of the community said they don’t attend meetings for that very reason.
“A lot of people would like to come to the meeting,” Arner said. “I just think we should look at ways to make it more handicapped accessible.”
Borough manager Nicole Beckett told Arner that the first floor of the building is handicapped accessible from North and South street.
Beckett said it’s the second floor that’s the issue, and added discussion on improved handicapped accessibility for the second floor was previously looked into.
However, she said changing it would have changed the entire amphitheater design in the Upper Park.
Arner then suggested perhaps an elevator could be installed.
No action was taken on Arner’s request.
