Bowmanstown adds sections to dog ordinance

The Bowmanstown Borough Council adopted portions of the state’s new tethering law, enacted in May, at its meeting last week.

Pam Leiby, borough council vice president and chairman of the Law Committee, recommended five sections be added to the borough’s dog ordinance. They adopted sections include:

• Dogs must be brought inside a temperature-controlled building when the temperature outside drops below 20 degrees Fahrenheit or goes above 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

• Shelter must be provided to a dog with ample food and water when the temperature outside reaches 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

• Shelter must consist of a structure made out of solid wood or other weather-resistant material.

• The roof has to be sloped away from the entrance of the structure to protect the dog from the weather or extreme cold.

• The dog must have adequate space for exercise when confined to a kennel, enclosure or pen.
