Bowmanstown reports on construction projects

Engineer Jessica Rehrig reported on the progress of several construction projects at last week’s Bowmanstown Borough council meeting.

The Lime Street connection project’s erosion and sediment permit for the Oak Street waste site was granted on Oct. 16, and construction has begun. A payment of $37,653 to Ankiewicz Enterprises Inc. in Tamaqua was approved for work already completed.

Rehrig said the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation awarded the grant that was requested for the Craig Street project. She is now moving to the next phase of the project planning and said construction should begin sometime in the spring.

Craig Street is in Bowmanstown on one side of the street and Lower Towamensing Township is on the opposite side of the street.

When the grant request for the project was developed, the cost of curbing for both sides of the street was included, however the cost of driveway cuts was not.

Council President William Ravert asked solicitor John Harrison to make a determination as to who should pay the costs of the driveway accesses on the township side. A final resolution of this issue is still pending.

The borough received $77,730 from the Carbon 2019 Community Development Block Grant program. The money will be used to install ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps at Forge Street, Mill Street, Line Street and Stony Hill.
