Bronx man seriously hurt in Polk accident
Rubel Taveras, 32, of Bronx, New York, sustained serious injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 2:16 a.m. Sunday on Serfass Road in Polk Township, according to state police at the Lehighton barracks.
Police said he needed to be extricated from the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer he was driving and was transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono, East Stroudsburg, by West End EMS personnel.
Police said he lost control of the vehicle while attempting to negotiate a left-hand, downhill curve in the roadway.
The car crossed over the double yellow lines and slid through a grass yard before hitting a large tree on its passenger side.
The vehicle came to rest against the tree facing south.
Police said the car sustained heavy damages and was towed from the scene.
Police said Taveras was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.
