Business owner asks Slatington council about high water bill

Published January 09. 2018 02:14PM

Dominic Recchia, owner of Mama’s Pizza on Main Street, spoke during public comment of the Slatington Council meeting to ask the board for “help” with his business’s high water bill.

Recchia said the women’s bathroom had sprung a small leak, increasing the water consumption of the business from its typical $1,400 per quarter to $2,400.

“No one warned me in the borough,” he said

“I called the office and spoke to Ms. Liz (utility clerk Elizabeth Miller). She said she noticed but forgot to call me,” he said.

“The water had been running for 24 hours. The problem is fixed now but it went from 85,000 gallons for three months to 140,000 gallons,” Recchia said.

Stevens told the business owner that extra water consumption due to leaks are typically the resident’s responsibility.
