Carbon Career and Technical Institute

Carbon Career and Technical Institute’s joint operating committee approved the following motions during Thursday’s meeting:

• Robert T. Yurchak as the joint operating committee solicitor for the 2018-2019 school year at a retainer of $7,000 and $100 per hour for extra work done.

• Margaret Kalogerakis was re-employed as the coordinator of school improvement at a salary of $39,500 on a 200 day contract for the 2018-2019 school year, effective Aug. 18. Kalogerakis will contribute $80 per month for health care expenses, effective July 1.

• Angelique Yaich will continue as an instructor for the Carbon Alternative High School Diploma program for 200 days, 32 hours per week, for morning and evening classes, at the rate of $30 per hour. Yaich will contribute $80 per month for health care expenses, effective July 1.

• Math teacher Diane Hyjurick’s 2018-2019 salary was increased by $900 to $67,131.

• Student club and organization advisers were approved: Geri Vavra, Aevidum; Stephanie Barto, DECA and the senior class; Sandra Kohutka, DECA assistant; Scott Bartholomew, DECA/HOSA; Jeremy Pease, National Technical Honor Society; Margaret Kalogerakis, Rotary Interact Community Service Club and student council; Rebecca Schaeffer, SADD; Kevin Kuehner, SkillsUSA; Tammy Marshall, Maritza Reinbold and Chris Graver, SkillsUSA assistants; Tammy Marshall, student forum, Kimberly Bittle, underclass advisor, and Maritza Reinbold, yearbook.

• SADD/Aevidum adviser salary was set at $2,300 for the 2018-2019 school year.

• Colleen Gooch as the adult education nurse aide instructor and nurse aide coordinator at a rate of $33 per hour.

• Diane Luicana and Tonia Schaeffer as adult education GED instructors at a rate of $21.25 per hour.

• Donna Valent as an adult education GED aide at a rate of $12.50 per hour.

• Deborah Enterline, Elizabeth Schlecht and Margaret Kalogerakis, GED examiners at a rate of $20 per hour.

• A motion for substitutes to be employed to assist the custodial/maintenance staff beginning on July 1, at the approved 2018-2019 substitute rates, not to exceed 336 hours, was approved.

• Physical education teacher Karoline Vavra’s resignation, effective June 14, was approved.

• GED testing program for the 2018-2019 school year was approved.

• An agreement of affiliation between CCTI’s Medical and Health Assistant/Certified Nurse Aide program was renewed and executed with Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Blue Mountain Health Systems/Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital and The Summit, the office of Dr. Jayendra Patel, Heritage Hill Senior Community, The Village at Palmerton and the Guardian Eldercare DBA Weatherwood Nurshing Home and Rehabilitation Center for the 2018-2019 fiscal year.

• An agreement of affiliation between CCTI’s Adult Education Department PA-Approved Certified Nurse Aid Training program was renewed and executed with Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and The Summit.

• Health Medical students were approved to attend the Health Occupations Students of America National Leadership Conference from June 27-29 in Dallas, Texas at a cost of $1,708.31 to cover the cost of registration, transportation, meals and lodging.

• Margaret Kalogerakis was approved as a chaperon for the HOSA conference at a cost of $2,359.92 to cover the cost of registration, lodging, meals, airfare and chaperoning.

• The Carl Perkins Career and Technology grant was submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Education for the 2018-2019 school year in the amount of $130,453.

• The fifth annual golf tournament at White Birch Golf Course on Oct. 6, was approved.

• The sixth annual SkillsUSA 5K Run/Walk fundraiser at Glen Onoko on Oct. 13 was approved.
