Carbon County animal shelter holds yard sale this weekend

Published June 29. 2018 10:51AM

Carbon County’s animal shelter depends on the community to keep the doors open.

On Thursday, Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard announced that five Carbon County corrections officers raised $1,070 through fundraising efforts for the shelter.

“I think it shows an effort of one county facility working with another,” he said.

In addition, this weekend, Gerhard said, the shelter will hold its fourth annual yard sale.

He said the event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the hopes of helping the dogs in the county’s care. Currently, there are 15 canines at the shelter.

Gerhard added that the event typically raises approximately $1,000.

On July 9, shelter upgrades continue with tile flooring being installed in the shelter.

The Carbon County Animal Shelter is located at 63 Broad St., Nesquehoning, off Route 93 on the Broad Mountain.
