Carbon County commissioners

The Carbon County Commissioners acted on the following items on Thursday:

• Approved an agreement with Forensic Pathology Associates of Allentown for services for the coroner’s office from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2019. Forensic autopsy services increase $28 to $1,525; neuropathology consultative services increase $25 to $700; and radiology services is a per-film charge from Lehigh Valley Health Network fee schedule.

• Approve a change order with C&D Waterproofing Corporation of Bloomsburg for the courthouse slate roof and skylight repair project. The change order extends the completion date from Oct. 31 to Nov. 30 as a result of the poor weather over the past few months. The contract price remains $216,000.

• Approved the Pocono Counties Workforce Investment Area Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act on-the-job training agreement for the Carbon County Correctional Facility for Oct. 1 through Feb. 28, 2019. The county will receive reimbursement for training costs not to exceed $6,333.75.

• Approved the termination of an agreement with St. Luke’s/Blue Mountain Health System for psychiatric services at the correctional facility, effective Oct. 31.

• Approved an agreement with the Ethos Clinic of Emmaus to provide psychiatric services at the correctional facility for two years, effective Nov. 1 through Oct. 31, 2020. Ethos will provide four hours of services a week at a rate of $150 per hour for a psychiatrist and $125 per hour for a physician assistant.

• Approved the resignations of Albaro A. Castro of Hazleton, corrections officer, effective Oct. 7; William G. Gower III of Girardville, corrections officer, effective Oct. 26; Lauren M. Hill of Nesquehoning, part-time dispatcher, effective Oct. 21; and Francis L. DeMatto of Summit Hill, lead seasonal park ranger I, effective Sept. 25.

• Approved change of status for Michaelyn R. Ruggiero of Coaldale, from part-time corrections officer/Teamsters to corrections officer, effective Oct. 22.

• Approved a leave of absence extension for Teah M. Reichard of Palmerton, from Oct. 19 to Oct. 31.

• Hired Aaron L. Groover of Palmerton, part-time dispatcher trainee, communications center, effective Oct. 24.

• Approved the sheriff appointment of Joseph P. Collins of Lansford, special deputy sheriff trainee, effective Oct. 29.

• Approved the prison appointment of Hattie G. Robinson of Albrightsville, life scan operator/corrections clerk, effective Oct. 22.

• Commissioner Wayne Nothstein announced that Thursday’s meeting marked the 175th anniversary of Carbon County commissioners’ meetings being held. The first meeting was held Oct. 22, 1843, by then Commissioners John D. Bowman, George H. Dougherty and William Kern.
