Carbon County commissioners

Carbon County Commissioners approved the following items last week:

• Funding in the amount of $10,500 for the 2018-19 discretionary grant through the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts to support both the county veterans treatment court and drug treatment court operations.

• A request to purchase GIS equipment from Trimble Inc. under a state contract that is necessary to both create and maintain the GIS data layers for the NG911 implementation in accordance with the National Emergency Number Association data accuracy standards. The cost is $39,153.51 and will be covered through the Statewide Interconnectivity Fund for the NG911 project.

• A proposal with Schaedler Yesco Distribution Inc. of Harrisburg to add security cameras and replace and upgrade existing cameras at the correctional facility. The cost of the project is $175,644.16 and is under the Costars program.

• An award letter for the 2019-20 RASA grant in the amount of $91,526 from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency for the victim/witness program.

• The application for the balance of the 2018-19 Pennsylvania Counties Risk Pool Loss Prevention Grant in the amount of $17,843 to be used for the purchase of the new camera system at the prison.

• A collective bargaining agreement with the county and Teamsters Local Union 773, which represents the correctional officers at the prison, for the period of Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2021. Each year, the contract provides a 3 percent raise; as well as a $5 increase in employee health insurance premium copays per pay and a decrease in prescription copay cots.

• A proclamation naming April as Pennsylvania 811 Safe Digging Month.

• Resolutions honoring Matthew Anthony and Delina Rodrigues, both of Palmerton in representing Carbon County in their respective Special Olympics events on the national and world levels.

• Resignations: Paul J. Fisher of Nesquehoning, district justice secretary II, effective March 15; Hattie G. Robinson of Albrightsville, live scan operator/corrections clerk, effective March 29; Gerard J. Donati of Jim Thorpe, part-time K-9 officer, effective March 31; and Christopher P. Burke of Kingston, corrections officer, effective April 2.

• Prothonotary appointment: Heidi A. Skrimcovsky of Jim Thorpe, automation/passport processing clerk, effective April 1.

• Prison board appointments: Joseph P. Collins and David J. Weaver, both of Lansford, corrections officers, effective April 1; Kaylyn A. Ahner of Andreas, Sophia E. Civitano of Weissport and Edward M. Kane of Lansford, part-time corrections officers/Teamsters, effective April 1; Gavin C. Moser of Lansford, Samantha M. Neikum of Beaver Meadows, James B.J. Taschler of Lehighton and Jessica A. Tirpak of Tamaqua, part-time corrections officers, effective April 1.

• Hires: James T. Kmetz of Jim Thorpe, seasonal park maintenance, effective April 8.

• Change of status: Jillian Berger of Albrightsville, from part-time legal secretary, district attorney; to clerical specialist, district attorney, effective April 1.
