Carbon County Judge Steven R. Serfass on Thursday accepted pleas in multiple cases.
Danielle L. Beers, 29, no address given, pleaded guilty in two cases to receiving stolen property, and to possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Beers was charged by Jim Thorpe police with stealing jewelry from a borough resident on May 31, 2013.
She had been placed in the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program, but her admission was revoked after she failed to comply with the terms.
The jewelry has been returned to its owner.
Serfass sentenced her to 24 months on probation, and ordered her to pay court costs and fees, and to obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation and comply with any recommendations, not ingest any drugs or alcohol, and to perform 100 hours of community service.
In the second case, Beers was charged by Lehighton police with possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia on Feb. 19.
Serfass sentenced her to 12 months on probation on the paraphernalia charge, and ordered her to perform 50 hours of community service.
He also sentenced her to the same punishment on the possession charge, but with the probation to be served concurrently.
James Akowi Mauhili III, 34, of Pocono Summit, pleaded to institutional vandalism on April 21, 2016, at Carbon County prison by Nesquehoning police. He spat at a corrections officer, marring the officer’s uniform.
Serfass sentenced him to 24 months on probation, to be served concurrently to a current sentence. Mauhili was also ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation.
Franklin Piro, 19, of Lehighton, pleaded guilty to possession of paraphernalia on Oct. 23, 2016. He was charged by Lehighton police.
Serfass sentenced him to 12 months on probation and 50 hours of community service. He also ordered Piro to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Heather A. Rex, 32, of Lehighton, pleaded two charges, both filed by Lehighton police on Aug. 9, 2016.
She admitted to a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Serfass sentenced her to three days to 12 months in jail, with credit for three days she’s already served. He also ordered her to perform 50 hours of community service, to obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation, and to not ingest drugs or alcohol.
Rex also pleaded guilty to giving false identification to police.
Serfass sentenced her to 12 months on probation, to be served after her jail sentence, and to perform an additional 50 hours of community service.
Maximilian A. Wing, 29, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, methamphetamine, on Nov. 25, 2016. The charge was filed by Jim Thorpe police.
Serfass ordered a presentence investigation before imposing punishment.
Eric D. Berkowitz, 33, of Dresher, Montgomery County, admitted to driving while his license was suspended or revoked on Jan. 15, 2016, in Penn Forest Township. He was charged by state police at Pocono.
Serfass deferred sentencing.
Marygrace E. Conarty, 35, of Albrightsville, retail theft on March 10. She took $13.95 worth of food and drink from the Dollar General Store on Route 903 in Penn Forest Township. She was charged by state police at Fern Ridge.
Conarty told Serfass she was having financial problems, and took the items to feed her children and herself.
Serfass sentenced her to 12 months on probation and 50 hours of community service.
Randy S. Green Jr., 36, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded guilty to theft on Sept. 21, 2016.
He was charged by Lehighton police after being paid $1,500 by a borough woman to cut down trees, but not doing the job and not returning the money.
Serfass sentenced Green to repay the money, serve 24 months on probation and 100 hours of community service.
Mary A. Haupt, 56, of Lehighton, admitted to retail theft, taking $9.49 worth of laundry detergent, from the Dollar General store in Lehighton on March 21. She was charged by Lehighton police.
Serfass sentenced her to 18 months on probation.
Amber M. Shupp, 24, of Palmerton, pleaded guilty to use/possession of drug paraphernalia on March 30. She was charged by Lehighton police.
Serfass sentenced her to 12 months on probation, 50 hours of community service, and to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation.
