Carbon County court – ARD
Nine people facing criminal charges were placed in Carbon County’s Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program on Monday by Judge Joseph J. Matika.
If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program, their record is wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, they then would face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.
All were placed for a year, unless otherwise noted.
Rhett R. Campion, 59, of Weatherly, was placed for 18 months on a charge of aggravated assault and related counts. He was arrested by state police at Hazleton for an incident on Aug. 22 in Lausanne Township. Troopers responded to a domestic incident in which a female victim sustained injuries.
He was assessed $450 for the cost of the program and ordered to render 75 hours of community service, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, attend and successfully complete an anger management course and have no contact with the victim.
Anthony Joseph Grasso Jr., 56, of Elm, New Jersey, was placed on a driving under the influence charge. He was arrested on June 2 by state police at Hazleton along Lake Harmony Road in Kidder Township. A test revealed a 0.10 BAC.
He was assessed $500, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 30 days.
Christopher Paul Redner, 39, of New Ringgold, was placed for six months on a charge of persistent disorderly conduct. He was arrested on Aug. 4 by Lansford police for his part in a disturbance in the street in the 200 block of West Ridge Street.
He was assessed $450 and ordered to render 25 hours of community service.
Ashley M. Rehrig, 30, of Lehighton, was placed on a charge of retail theft. She was arrested on Aug. 23 by Mahoning Township police at the Walmart store.
She was assessed $450 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and stay out of the store.
Brett Sheriff, 22, of Lansford, was placed for 18 months on a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, marijuana. He was arrested on Aug. 6 by Lansford police after a search warrant was served at an East Abbott Street residence.
He was assessed $450 and ordered to render 75 hours of community service.
Zachary Thomas, 24, of Lansford, was arrested in the same incident as Brett Sheriff and was placed on the same charge of PWID.
He was assessed $450 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service.
Jesus A. Patino Tapia, 27, of New York City, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on Feb. 11 by Kidder Township police along Moseywood Road. A test revealed a 0.23 BAC.
He was assessed $500, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license suspended for 60 days.
Sarah Anne White, 37, of Mount Pocono. was placed on a DUI charge. She was arrested on July 4, 2017, by Kidder Township police along Route 940. A test revealed a 0.12 BAC.
She was assessed $650, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and her license was suspended for 30 days.
Maryellen Yanchura, 51, of Nesquehoning, was placed on a charge of possession of marijuana. She was arrested on May 17 by Nesquehoning police in the area of Park Avenue.
She was assessed $650 and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.
Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program and those charged with DUI must follow any recommendation of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
