Carbon County court — ARD

Thirteen first-time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County’s Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program on Monday by Judge Joseph J. Matika.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program their record will be wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it or are revoked from it, then they would face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.

All were placed for a year, unless otherwise noted.

Jodie Becker, 18, of Lansford, was placed on a charge of hindering apprehension. She was arrested by Lansford police for an incident on Feb. 15, along West Bertsch Street. Police said she interfered with the apprehension a wanted person.

She was assessed $450 for the cost of the program and ordered to render 50 hours of community service.

Vanessa Ann Bigg-Carr, 27, of Lansford, was placed for six months on a charge of simple assault. She was charged with an incident on March 2 involving her sister at the victim.

She was assessed $450 and ordered to render 25 hours of community service.

Diana Collotty, 64, of Lehighton, was placed for six months on a retail theft charge. She was arrested on June 24, 2017, by Mahoning Township police for an incident at the Walmart store.

She was assessed $650 and ordered to render 25 hours of community service, make restitution of $48.51 to the victim and stay out of the store.

Thomas Charles Fine, 43, of Slatington, was placed on a driving under the influence charge. He was arrested on Jan. 7 by Weatherly police along East Main Street. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

He was assessed $600 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 60 days.

Colin Saji Kopram, 22, of New Hyde Park, New York, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on March 25, 2017, along North Lake Drive by Kidder Township police. He refused a test.

He was assessed $600 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license suspended for 60 days.

Zack Outman, 18, of Minersville, was placed on a retail theft charge. He was arrested on Feb. 10 by Mahoning Township police at the Walmart store.

He was assessed $450 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and to stay out of the store.

Franklin Joel Santana, 21, of Hazleton, was placed on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. He was arrested on Aug. 12, 2017, along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge following a vehicle stop.

He was assessed $650 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service.

Joseph Anthony Schlack, 20, of Hazleton, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on Dec. 12, 2017, by Weatherly police along Main Street. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

He was assessed $600 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 90 days.

Ariel Davane Shiffer, 23, of Coaldale, was placed on a DUI charge. She was arrested on Nov. 11, 2017, by Summit Hill police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

She was assessed $600 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and her license was suspended for 60 days.

Anthony F. Sorokaput, 33, of Lansford, was placed on a simple assault charge. He was arrested on Feb. 23 by Lansford police for an incident along West Kline Avenue following a domestic incident with his wife.

He was assessed $450 and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and render 50 hours of community service.

Jason Omar Taylor, 39, of Mount Vernon, New York, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on Oct. 14, 2017, by state police at Fern Ridge along I-80 in Kidder Township. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

He was assessed $600 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 60 days.

Jessica Thorpe, 26, of Lansford, was placed for six months on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested on Jan. 18 by Lansford police along West Kline Avenue.

She was assessed $450 and ordered to render 25 hours of community service.

Austin Michael Wentz, 18, of Northampton, was placed on a corruption of minors charge. He was arrested on Jan. 15 by Lansford police along East Ridge Street. He gave marijuana to a 16-year-old.

He was assessed $450 and ordered to get a D&A evaluation, render 50 hours of community service and have no contact with the juvenile.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program and those charged with DUI must follow any recommendation of their D&A evaluation.
