Carbon County court — drug cases

Three defendants in drug-related cases entered guilty pleas on Friday in Carbon County court before Judge Joseph J. Matika.

Heather L. Ruff, 43, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was arrested on March 4 by Nesquehoning police in the 200 block of West Catawissa Street. Methamphetamine was found in her possession. A charge of possession of a controlled substance was dropped in a plea agreement with the district attorney’s office.

She was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations, follow any recommendations for treatment and render 50 hours of community service.

Derek Michael Hunsicker, 29, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arrested on Nov. 7, 2017, by Lansford police in the 800 block of East Patterson Street.

He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use and render 50 hours of community service.

He is currently an inmate in the county prison on other charges.

Ryan Paul Yanchura, 23, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arrested on March 26 at the county prison by Nesquehoning police. He was brought to the prison on a bench warrant, and during the intake process the paraphernalia was found on him.

He was fined $150 and costs.

He is currently an inmate in the county prison on other charges.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
