Carbon County court — drug cases

A Carbon County woman admitted to a drug dealing charge on Monday in the county court before Judge Steven R. Serfass.

Nancy Belle Whitaker, 49, of Lansford, pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, methamphetamine.

In an unrelated case she also pleaded to one count of driving under the influence of a controlled substance.

She was arrested on the drug dealing charge on Nov. 23, 2016, at her residence along Bertsch Street by Lansford police. As part of an ongoing investigation police served a search warrant on the residence. Various drug paraphernalia and 2.5 grams of crystal methamphetamine were found in the home. There is a co-defendant in the case.

The DUI occurred on March 3, 2017, filed by Lehighton police following a traffic stop along Route 443.

Serfass deferred sentencing to a later date.

Other drug cases

Megan C. Rims, 35, of Summit Hill, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested on March 12 by Lansford police following a vehicle stop.

She was placed on probation for six months and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and render 25 hours of community service.

Stephen A. Griffith Sr., 51, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia with a charge of possession of a controlled substance dropped in a plea bargain with the district attorney’s office. He was arrested along Route 443 by Lehighton police following a traffic stop. He was a passenger in the vehicle.

Sentencing was deferred.

Ryan Yanchura, 23 of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was arrested on March 26 by Jim Thorpe police following a traffic stop. He was a passenger in the vehicle.

Serfass imposed a fine of $300.

He is an inmate in the county prison on other charges.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
