Carbon County court — DUI
Four people were sentenced on Friday in Carbon County court on driving under the influence charges.
Judge Steven R. Serfass imposed sentences on the following:
Michelle Maureen Powers, 28, of Albrightsville, was sentenced to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $300 and one-year license suspension. She was arrested on April 15, 2017, by state police at Fern Ridge following a traffic stop along Old Stage Road. A test revealed a 0.18 BAC.
She was also ordered to render 25 hours of community service.
She began the jail term immediately.
Donald F. Heckman Jr., 60, of Lehighton, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000 and one-year license suspension. He was arrested on Aug. 17, 2017, by Lehighton police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.
On a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia he was placed on probation for a year, consecutive to the DUI charge. He must also render a total of 75 hours of community service.
He began the jail term at 6 p.m. Friday.
Tamara Lynn West, 36, of Lehighton, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000 and one-year license suspension. She was arrested on Aug. 31, 2016, along Bridge Street in Weissport by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. She must also render 25 hours of community service.
She was given credit for two days spent in jail on the charge. She will begin serving the final day at 9 a.m. Jan. 22.
Carol Lynn Scott, 53, of Lehighton, was sentenced to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $300 and one-year license suspension. She was arrested on June 20, 2017, by Lehighton police. She must also render 25 hours of community service.
Serfass ruled the term will run concurrent with a nine- to 24-month prison term she is currently serving in the county prison imposed by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic in October 2017.
