Carbon County court — DUI
A Carbon County woman admitted to two driving under the influence charges and one count of endangering the welfare of a child on Monday in Carbon County court.
She was one of 10 defendants in pending DUI-related cases to enter a guilty plea before Judge Steven R. Serfass.
Controlled substances
Sharon Louise Frohnheiser, 59, of Palmerton, was arrested on June 26, 2015, by state police at Lehighton along Little Gap Road in Lower Towamensing Township after being involved in a crash. On scene troopers said a child was found in the vehicle with no safety seat in the vehicle.
The second DUI arrest occurred on Feb. 2, 2015, along Second Street filed by Lehighton police. In both cases a tests revealed the presence of a controlled substance.
Serfass had to defer sentencing because Frohnheiser must obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Two counts
Brandon Leslie, 30, of Slatington, also pleaded to two counts of DUI of a controlled substance and two counts of driving under suspension — DUI related. He was arrested on the first count on Feb. 28, 2016, by state police at Lehighton along Route 443 in Lehighton. That also included a suspension charge. The second arrest occurred on July 25, 2017, by Lehighton police along White Street. The second suspension charge was involved in this incident.
On the first count Serfass sentenced him to serve 12 to 60 months in prison, a fine of $2,500 and an 18-month license suspension. On the second DUI he was sentenced to serve 12 to 60 months in prison, a fine of $2,500 and another 18-month suspension. On the suspension counts he was sentenced to serve 45 to 90 days in jail on each, but must serve the full 90 days on each, and total fine of $2,000. The jail terms run concurrently.
He was also ordered to render a total of 100 hours of community service when paroled and zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use. He was given credit for 217 days already spent in jail on the charges. He is currently an inmate in the prison on the charges.
Other pleas
Heather Moser, 27, of Weissport, was arrested on March 19, 2017, by Lehighton police along Route 443. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.
Sentencing was deferred so Moser can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation. She is currently an inmate in the Lehigh County prison on a parole violation.
Timothy Patrick Schaub, 38, of Palmerton, was arrested on June 16, 2017, by Palmerton police along Delaware Avenue. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.
Sentencing was deferred so Schaub can apply for placement in the county’s Intermediate Punishment Program — house arrest.
Ronald Lighting, 43, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on Sept. 2, 2017, along Lehigh Avenue by Jim Thorpe police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.
Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Kristin Marie Tyahla, 30, of Weissport, was arrested on April 23, 2016, by state police at Lehighton along Seventh Street in Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.
Sentencing was deferred so she can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Jeremiah Alan Veanus, 23, of Walnutport, was arrested on July 8, 2017, at the Weissport Canal by state police at Lehighton, after being involved in a crash. A test revealed a 0.24 BAC.
Sentencing was deferred.
John Mika Jr., 35, of Weissport, was arrested on Jan. 22, 2016, by state police at Lehighton along Bridge Street in Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.
Sentencing was deferred so Mika can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Joshua Matthew Burd, 34, of Bath, Northampton County, was arrested on July 28, 2017, along First Street by Lehighton police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. He also pleaded to driving under the influence, DUI related.
Burd, currently an inmate in the Northampton County prison, will apply for placement in the state Intermediate Punishment program. He will be transferred to a state correctional institution to be evaluated for the program.
Robert Henry Freeman, 23, of Albrightsville, was arrested on March 25, 2016, along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township by state police at Fern Ridge. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. He was previously placed in the ARD program but revoked for violating conditions.
Serfass sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service. He will begin the jail term at 8 a.m. on March 30. It was noted he has a pending DUI count in Monroe County.
Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.
