Three people were sentenced in Carbon County court on Friday on driving under the influence and related charges and a fourth on a drug count.

The DUI defendants previously entered guilty pleas to the charges. Judge Steven R. Serfass imposed sentences.

DUI cases

Jasmine Cierra Hunsicker, 21, of Lehighton, was sentenced to serve 30 to 60 days in jail on a driving under suspension, DUI-related charge, and a fine of $500. She must serve the full 60 days. On a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia she was placed on probation for six months, consecutive to the first count.

She applied for placement in the county’s Intermediate Punishment Program — house arrest — but was determined not to be a good candidate for the program by the adult probation office, whose recommendation Serfass accepted.

She was arrested June 3, 2017, by Lehighton police along Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard. A DUI of controlled substance charge was dropped.

She was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and render 25 hours of community service when paroled.

She will begin the jail term at 7 p.m. July 15 and serve it on consecutive periods of Sunday to Tuesday until the 60 days is served.

Nicholas Anthony Dietrich, 35, of Harrisburg, and formerly of Tamaqua, was sentenced to serve 90 days to 60 months in prison, a fine of $1,500 and 18-month license suspension. On a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia he was placed on probation for a year, concurrent with the first count. He must also render a total of 150 hours community service.

He was arrested on Aug. 19, 2016, by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

He was given credit for 90 days spent in an inpatient rehabilitation program run by the Salvation Army in Harrisburg.

He told the court he is working full time and lives in a halfway house. When released from that facility he plans on remaining in the Harrisburg area.

Lauren E. Colangelo, 31, of Palmerton, was placed on probation for six months, ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.

She was arrested Sept. 10, 2017, along Ninth Street by Lehighton police. A test revealed a 0.17 BAC.

Drug case

Daniel S. Leslie, 24, of Palmerton, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested in the 800 block of Princeton Avenue by Palmerton police Feb. 24, 2017, following a vehicle stop in which he was a back seat passenger.

He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.

He is currently an inmate in the county prison serving another sentence.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole, and those charged with DUI must follow any recommendation of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
